Description:
The mission of Science Hack Day is to get excited and make things with science! A Hack Day is a 48-hour-all-night event that brings together designers, developers, scientists and other geeks in the same physical space for a brief but intense period of collaboration, hacking, and building ‘cool stuff’. Hack Days were originally created by Yahoo! in 2005 and soon after became a worldwide trend. By collaborating on focused tasks during this short period, small groups of hackers are capable of producing remarkable results.
Make use of the past to come up with solutions for the future! This is the challenge presented by the second Euregion Science Hack Day to be held at the Continium, Kerkrade, on 21 & 22 June 2014. You will have 48 hours to create something new, together with a team of programmers, designers, coders, hackers, engineers, students and other creative enthusiasts. Anything, a smartphone app, game, gadget, or software, hardware, or a combination of things, you name it.
Preliminary program
Saturday June 21st:
- 9:30-10:00am: Check-in & coffee/tea
- 10:00am: Welcome
- 10:30am: Workshops
- 12:30am: Lunch!
- 13:30pm: Hacking begins
- 16.00pm: First pitch + feeback
- 18:30pm: Dinner!
- 24:00pm: End of day 1.
Sunday June 22nd:
- 8.00: Doors open
- 9:00am: Breakfast!
- 12:30pm: Lunch!
- 16:00pm: Grand finale: present your product
- 16:30pm: Award ceremony
- 17:00pm: Drinks!
- 18:oopm: End of Science Hack Day 2014. See you next year!
Practical information
The Science Hack Day will be held on June 21 & 22, 2014 in Discovery Center Continium:
Museumplein 2 6461 MA Kerkrade the Netherlands
You can get here by car, train and bus:
Take the exit “Kerkrade-West” and follow the signs “Discovery Center Continium”. There are enough and free parking places.
By train or bus: Continium is located directly near the train-station. There is also a bus stop in front of the museum. For up-to-date travel information check 9292OV
We will try to provide a live stream during the weekend so make sure you bring a hairbrush.
The event is completely free and we will even provide healthy food and drinks for the entire weekend. You can also stay over in Continium, just bring an air mattress and a sleeping bag.
