Short description: Watch a hacker congress or camp live on a projector in the space, or listen to it via the phone.

synopsis

The idea is, for people unable to attend the upcoming hacker congress or camp, to visit the hackerspace and watch the streams together on a projector screen/TV/monitor. Food and drinks will be taken care of as well!

xopr created a virtual hackerspace in gather.town (might be password protected); ask via the regular channels if needed.

It's a lot of fun if enough people join! Alternatively, people traveling can join the teleconference.

Also, we should have pixelflut leds (with Art-Net support) up around that time, so it's fun to show off your script/program.

More info on the discussion page.

streams

video

Streams can be opened directly from Kodi, VLC or possibly your favorite media player. Because we want to suffer (originally lower the burden of CCC's data output), we're using multicast streams (including a mosaic overview). You can find the config here. The video links can be found here:

audio (phone)

We have conference audio streams (off and on since 2011), which now has been standardized.

Following the dialplan, there are two lists of extensions reserved for conferences: 130x and 139x where the last digit (1-9) stands for the corresponding stage/room, while the difference between the former and latter series is whether you are allowed to chat with other callers ("party line at 9"). See Telephone system:shoutcast streams for the FreeSWITCH configuration.

If you hear the SIT, that means no stream is configured for that conference room.

events in 2023

This year was a continuation of last year's self-hosted sessions. xopr had to scramble a video adapter, one of the video inputs (cable?) didn't work, and the midi control desk didn't play nice with the 30 minute old installation, but in the end it worked out fine. Best of all: all talks started fairly on time this time!

Attended Stats
  • 1 day of self hosted talks
  • 3 talks
  • 2 screens/projectors
  • 1 room
  • 2.7 liter of consumed chocolate milk

  • 1 Snickers
  • 1.6 liters of Ice Tea
  • 1 Yum Yum Chicken (to complete a talk)

events in 2022

This year was completely different yet again; we streamed 0 talks and hosted a conference ourselves. The decoration and infrastructure was guerrilla style and more or less last minute, but it worked well.

Attended Stats
  • 1 day of self hosted talks
  • 8 talks
  • 2 screens/projectors

events in 2021

This year was different again; there were no main rooms, and no audio streams available. What also changed were the stream ids: previously (mostly) numeric, now each with its own named (which doesn't help in automating)

People who wanted to watch the streams together could join the virtual hackerspace in gather.town complete with spacestate switch.

Some users were experiencing problems with the streams but most of it worked fine most of the time.

Attended Stats
  • 4 days of streaming
  • 14 HD streams
  • 2 audio streams
  • 9 rooms, 2 laveratories and one kitchen
  • ~5 days of programming (including 2 code refactors)
  • >5,7 liters of consumed chocolate milk (of 11 available)
  • >2 cans of whipped cream (of 5 available)
  • >1.5 liters of coconut rum (of 4 available)
  • 0 liters of beer
  • 0 liters of Club Mate 😱
  • 0 liters of Jolt Cola (1 liter available)
  • 6 coffee (on or about)
  • 9 internet controlled bells
  • 1 internet controlled moodlight

events in 2020

This year was a bit different; for people who want to watch the streams together, xopr created a virtual hackerspace in gather.town (might be password protected); ask via the regular channels if needed.

Also, the URL was changed to rc3.world, the incomplete schedule at fahrplan.events.ccc.de/rc3/2020/Fahrplan/, an almost complete version here and a local version that tried to parse the remote json here (after some use, the php script got an empty string back, which we had to mitigate, same for CORS and file-get-contents).

The HLS streams seemed to work better in multiple occasions, but then again: rC3 was suffering a DDoS attack and angry mob that came with it. Also, reloading the 'level' often fixed CDN lookups, and continued the stream.

Attended Stats
  • 4 days of streaming
  • 19 HD streams
  • 1 audio stream
  • 10 rooms and 2 laveratories
  • 2 days of getting the fahrplan to work comfortably
  • 7,3 liters of consumed chocolate milk
  • 1,5 can of whipped cream
  • 2,6 liters of coconut rum
  • 0.2 liters of beer
  • 0 liters of Club Mate 😱
  • 0 liters of Jolt Cola
  • 10 coffee (on or about)

events in 2019

This event was more of a dress rehearsal of getting the streams up and running on a (new) VM with the new mosaic script.

events in 2018

The mosaic was working again after a lot of compatibility issues with newer VLC versions. More than 4 cores are recommended to process all 8 streams for 35C3.

stuiterveer fixed the streams after deploying SpaceWorkhorse with an older version of VLC (lots of trial and error) and started virtualization of the services.
Attended Stats
  • 4 days of streaming
  • 8 SD streams
  • 3 days of getting the mosaic to work
  • 2 Ubuntu/VLC downgrades to resolve compatibility issues with the mosaic
  • 7 liters of chocolate milk, of which 4 liters were consumed
  • 1 can of whipped cream
  • 4 liters of glühwein, of which 1.5 liters were consumed
  • 0.9 liters of beer distributed amongst 3 people
  • unknown amount of Club Mate
  • unknown amounts of coffee
  • 24 buns
  • 1 pack of cheese
  • 2 packs of meat for on the buns
  • unknown amounts of pizza and kapsalon
  • 1 pack of shrimp salad
  • 1 subproject
  • 2 fixes
  • 8 improvements

events in 2017

Christmas lights were upgraded to ESPixelflut lights. Also, a wiki stream table template was created.
